The International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Government of Norway, and the Government of Ghana will host the second Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22) on 16 and 17 February 2022. The Summit will be mainly virtual.

The Summit will mobilize efforts for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the principle of ‘Leave No One Behind’ (LNOB), and building back better and more inclusive with regards to Covid-19.

Beside the main event Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22), there will be the opportunity for all interested members and representatives of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), policy and decision makers, government and institution officials, NGO representatives, and all interested public to participate in many parallel events within the GDS22. The mission of the GDS Youth Summit on 14 February 2022 is to include youth in GDS22. The Civil Society Forum on 15 February 2022 will be are an opportunity to amplify the voice and participation of persons with disabilities, through their individual participation and that of representative organizations (OPDs). The Thematic Workshops have the objective of promoting discussions and commitment mobilization within different themes. The Regional Summits aim to entrench the GDS mechanism at the regional level, and mobilize efforts for regional commitments. Finally, stakeholders have the opportunity to organize Side events. These are open to all organisations committing of more inclusive society for persons with disabilities.

All these events will contribute to strengthening Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and supporting their greater collaboration with governments, building on recent progress, showcasing best practices from around the world, and making commitments to drive forward disability-inclusive development.
