Nominate Civil Society Speakers for the Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22) and Civil Society Forum 2022!

The hosts of the Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22), along with the Civil Society Reference Group (CSRG), are announcing a call for speakers for the Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22) and the Civil Society Forum.

The International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Government of Norway, and the Government of Ghana will host the second Global Disability Summit (GDS22) on 16 and 17 February 2022. The Summit will be mainly virtual. Read more about the Summit here.

The themes for the GDS2022 are:

1. Capacity-strengthening of organisations of persons with disabilities in the Global South
2. Inclusive Education
3. Inclusive Health
4. Inclusive Employment and Livelihoods
5. Inclusion in situations of crises and conflict, including a focus on climate change.
Cross-cutting theme: Gender

The Civil Society Reference Group and the Civil Society Forum

The Civil Society Reference Group (CSRG) aims to ensure the meaningful participation of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), in all their diversity, in the build-up to the new Summit the GDS itself, and its follow-up. The CSRG will also host a Civil Society Forum, one day before the Summit, on 15 February 2022. You can register for Civil Society Forum 2022 here.

Call for Speakers:

The hosts of the Global Disability Summit, along with the CSRG, are making a call for speakers for the main Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22) and the Civil Society Forum 2022, respectively. A number of slots are available, so please check the form carefully and make your selection for the slot(s) you are applying/nominating for.

In order to streamline the process, organisations which are members of overarching networks or consortiums (such as International Disability Alliance or International Disability and Development Consortium) need to submit their nominations to their overarching network/consortium who will then submit nominations to the CSRG. 

If you would like to nominate a speaker for either the Civil Society Forum 2022 or the Global Disability Summit 2022 (GDS22), please fill out the form below and send it by midnight on Friday 21 January 2022. Please note the nomination criteria below when making your submission. Only one submission from each applicant will be accepted.

Nomination Criteria:
1. Person with a disability
2. Nominated by an organization or consortium (no individual nominations)
3. Demonstrated record of working for the rights of persons with disabilities nationally, regionally or globally
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
5. Commitment to upholding and promoting all articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
6. Demonstrated commitment to working for the benefit of persons with disabilities across all constituencies
7. Demonstrated expertise on the round table topic the applicant is nominated for.

Consideration of gender balance, regional representation, and disability constituency will be taken into account. Nominations will be selected through the voting process established by the CSRG. Successful applicants only will be notified by email.
