Conflict and Humanitarian Contexts Updates Progress

Commitment year: 2018

As a member of the Disaster’s Emergency Committee, through the START network, Bond, and as the UK member of the HelpAge global network, Age International commits to promoting and raising awareness of the Humanitarian Inclusion Standards for Older People and People with Disabilities (now part of the SPHERE Humanitarian Standards Partnership) to ensure people with disabilities and older people are included in humanitarian action.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan
We will work with HelpAge in 2018-20 to develop a strategy for the promotion of the Humanitarian Inclusion Standards through advocacy, training and learning activity.

Age International continues to work with HelpAge International to promote an understanding of humanitarian response that is inclusive of older people living with disabilities. With ODI, we published research and organised a policy roundtable in 2018 focussing on humanitarian inclusion that promoted the Humanitarian Inclusion Standards for Older People and People with Disabilities.

Data Disaggregation Updates Progress

Commitment year: 2018

Sign up to the Inclusive Data Charter
Age International commits to improving the collection, reporting and analysis of disaggregated data, including by disability, age and gender, to ensure that the situation and needs of the most marginalised people are properly represented. We will work with our implementing partner HelpAge to implement its SADDD (minimum Sex, Age, Disability Disaggregation Data) guidelines with partners and programmes funded by Age International, and will join the Inclusive Data Charter to strengthen commitment to inclusive data globally.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan
Age International will support the rollout of the HelpAge SADDD guidelines from 2018-20 and will continue to invest in the disaggregation of data over the longer-term.

Age International, as the UK member of the HelpAge Global Network, is supporting HelpAge's work with international partners through the International Data Charter. HelpAge is the lead partner in this collaboration, which is why Age International has not signed the Charter directly. Age International supports HelpAge's advocacy efforts and is helping to improve the collection, reporting and analysis of disaggregated data through our joint work.

Eliminate Stigma and Discrimination Updates Progress

Commitment year: 2018

Stereotypes, Attitudes and Behaviours
Age International commits to helping end age, disability and gender discrimination as part of the HelpAge global network by ensuring that the voices of older women and men living with disabilities are heard by decision-makers, and their rights and contributions are recognised and valued.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan 
From 2018-20 Age International will support HelpAge to develop new advocacy and campaigning guidance on ageing, disability and gender. As part of the HelpAge global network, we will also support the WHO-led global campaign against ageism that will begin from 2019/20 to ensure it includes and benefits older people with disabilities.
