The Multi-Regional Pre Global Disability Summit (previously known as the Arabic Regional Pre-Summit) was co-hosted by the Higher Council for Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) Jordan and International Disability Alliance (IDA) in Amman from November 13-14, 2024.
Organized as part of the preparatory activities for the Global Disability Summit (GDS) in April 2025, this event brought together government officials, civil society representatives, organizations for persons with disabilities, and individuals with disabilities and their families from the Middle East, North Africa, Africa, and Asia. The Pre-summit aimed to foster international collaboration and address regional needs, setting the stage for commitments relevant to various regions, including selected countries in Latin America and Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Key objectives include engaging stakeholders in the GDS preparation process, validating themes identified by organizations of persons with disabilities during consultations, and clarifying their roles in shaping GDS content and outcomes, particularly in advocating for strong governmental commitments.
The two-day event included panel discussions and break-out rooms on a wide range of topics. For more details on the summit click here.
